Webinar: Landscaping for a Healthy Environment

The entire community can reap the benefits of utilizing efficient landscaping techniques to create an attractive environment in balance with the native surroundings, local climate, and function of the space.  Learn about actions and resources in both the Sustainable Jersey and Sustainable Jersey for Schools programs that can help municipalities and schools provide landscapes that reduce stormwater runoff, and minimize water use through use of sustainable landscaping practices.

The webinar will feature a demonstration of the Jersey-Friendly Yards website, (www.jerseyyards.org), an easy-to-use, comprehensive source of information for creating attractive, low-maintenance landscaping that is not only better for the environment but also saves time and money.  You’ll also hear from Neil Chambers, a member of the South Orange Environmental Commission and the Maplewood, South Orange, and Millburn Green Team who will talk about their successful ReYard program, which he helped to create.

Community Rating System Peer Exchange

This workshop is designed as a peer exchange for counties and municipalities in Northern New Jersey to make them more aware of the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Community Rating System (CRS) and the benefits it can bring to property owners in flood plain areas. The workshop will highlight several counties in our region with CRS User Groups that already provide support to local communities taking advantage of the CRS Program to improve resiliency.

Census Business Builder Showcase

Census Business Builder is a suite of services that provides selected demographic and economic data from the Census Bureau tailored to specific types of users in a simple to access and use format. This suite currently includes the Small Business Edition and a proposed Chamber of Commerce Edition, but will include other tailored editions in the future.

NAIOP New Jersey CRE Intercollegiate Case Study Competition

Teams from Rutgers, Monmouth, Lehigh and Villanova will present their designs for the redevelopment of a site in Trenton and compete for a $5,000 prize.

Trenton Mayor Eric Jackson and Greater Trenton CEO George Sowa will deliver remarks, and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman has been invited to speak.

Registration/networking/cocktails begin at 5:00 PM, followed by a buffet dinner and the student presentations.
