City of Water Day

City of Water Day is back for its seventh year encouraging residents of the metropolitan region to take advantage of the New York-New Jersey harbor waters.

Here’s a look at the City of Water Day’s various events:

Maxwell Place Park in Hoboken

City of Water Day’s main hub will be at Maxwell Place Park in Hoboken from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will include a free day of entertainment and educational activities.

Attendees will get a chance to partake in narrated boat tours, paddle-boarding, fishing, the Waterfront Activity Fair, live music and local food vendors.

Maxwell Place Park will also have a children’s fair and alliance partners fair with activities by Big League Bouncies Inc., the Liberty Science Center, Beyond Basic, Zipcar, the Hackensack Riverkeeper, the Hudson River Waterfront Conservancy and Hoboken Historical Museum.

Governors Island

The 172-acre island in the Upper New York Bay, known as Governors Island, will hold family activities, two outdoor fairs and live musical performances from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Free ferry transporation will be available between Maxwell Park and Governors Island, where a Cardboard Kayak Race will take place at noon highlighting efforts to bring Eco Docks to the neighborhoods around the harbor.

Activities on Governor’s Island include a performance by Going Green Band, a children’s activities fair and alliance partner fair presented by various organizations, including North River Sail & Power Squad, Solar One, Citizen Bridge and The WaterFront Center. (more…)

Public-Private Partnerships….the New Norm

The New Jersey Alliance for Action is pleased to host its fourth annual PPP conference with an outstanding array of nationally recognized speakers and panelists who will focus on the benefits and pitfalls of using public-private partnership arrangements to pay for needed infrastructure improvements.

Route 37 Economic Corridor Vision Plan open house

Join The project team behind the Route 37 Economic Corridor Vision Plan will host a public open house information session. They will provide a general project overview including the project goals and information about the study area.

Local residents, business owners, general public and other interested parties are invited to drop in at any time between 5 and 8 pm and provide feedback.

The Route 37 Economic Corridor Vision Plan is a collaborative effort to pursue recommendations for a nearly six mile long corridor through four municipalities. These communities include Toms River Township, Manchester Township, Berkeley Township, and Lakehurst Borough in Ocean County. The vision plan will assess local and regional economic, housing, transportation, and environmental assets and identify potential opportunities and constraints within the corridor.
