The American Planning Association and its professional institute, the American Institute of Certified Planners, are organized to advance the art and science of planning and to foster the activity of planning -- physical, economic, and social -- at the local, regional, state, and national levels. The objective of the Association is to encourage planning that will contribute to public well-being by developing communities and environments that meet the needs of people and of society more effectively.

ANJEC

Green Mountain Institute for Environmental Democracy
GMI staff have more than 50 years of collective experience working within and outside of government with collaborative, information-based processes, at the international, national, regional, state, watershed, and local levels to improve environmental management and decision making. Site contains Summary of (Vermont) State Environmental Indicator Reports and The Resource Guide to Indicators.

GreenSpace Alliance
We have formed the GreenSpace Alliance to encourage greater and more coordinated efforts by state and local governments, non-profit and for-profit organizations, and individuals to increase the amount and continuity of land permanently protected as open space and to maintain protected lands more adequately. 

Greenbelt Alliance
Greenbelt Alliance is the leading land conservation organization in the nine county San Francisco Bay Area. Formed in 1958, our mission is to protect the 3.8 million acre Greenbelt of farmlands, watersheds, parks and other productive open space through citizen action, research and education, and advocacy. 

Growing Smart Project
In October 1994, the American Planning Association launched Growing Smart(SM), a major intiative aimed at helping states modernize statutes affecting planning and the management of change. The project will establish a long-term capacity within APA to assist states with statutory reform.

Institute for Community Studies at Montclair State University
The ICS is a university based, privately funded organization that aims to promote an understanding of the forces that draw people together into groups with a shared sense of interests and responsibilities, and of the forces that create divisions among people. The ICS seeks to promote working relationships between the university and citizen groups in the Northern New Jersey area (and in some cases beyond) that are beneficial to the communities in which these groups are active and to the university and its students.

International Institute for Sustainable Development
To promote sustainable development in decision-making internationally and within Canada. We contribute new knowledge and concepts, analyze policies, identify and disseminate information about best practices, demonstrate how to measure progress, and build partnerships to amplify these messages.

Island Press
Island Press is a nonprofit organization whose principal purpose is the publication of books on environmental issues. Island Press provides solutions-oriented information to professionals, public officials, business and community leaders, and concerned citizens who are shaping responses to environmental problems. Available at IP's website is a section on Sprawl (http://www.islandpress.org/sprawl) that contains current information on key sprawl issues as well as links to major sprawl websites.

League of Women Voters NJ
A nonprofit, nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote political responsibility through informed and active participation of citizens in government.

Loka Institute
The Loka Institute is a non-profit research and advocacy organization concerned with the social, political, and environmental repercussions of science and technology. 

The Michigan Land Use Institute
The Michigan Land Use Institute is a nonprofit research, educational, and service organization dedicated to fostering a new approach to economic development that respects the land, the community that inhabits the land, and the inherent process of change.

National Center for Appropriate Technology (NCAT)
NCAT provides information on sustainable technologies and community-based approaches that can help improve the lives of economically disadvantaged people.

National Housing Institute
National Housing Institute is an independent nonprofit organization that examines the issues causing the crisis in housing in America.

National Trust for Historic Preservation
Formed in 1949, the National Trust for Historic Preservation is dedicated to protecting the irreplaceable. It fights to save historic buildings and the neighborhoods and landscapes they anchor.

Natural Resources Defense Council
The Natural Resources Defense Council's purpose is to safeguard the Earth: its people, its plants and animals and the natural systems on which all life depends.

New Jersey Chapter of the American Planning Association
