New Jersey Future Executive Director Peter Kasabach today issued the following statement on the release of the Environmental Defense Fund report, Reinventing Transit: American communities finding smarter, cleaner, faster transportation solutions:
“New Jersey has good reason to be proud of one of the nation’s most extensive and comprehensive transit systems — and it is heartening to see the NJ TRANSIT Community Shuttle program singled out in the EDF report as one of 12 case studies from across the country cited for innovative transit practices.
“Nearly three out of every four New Jersey residents live within five miles of a train station, but parking near the station is often a problem. The Community Shuttle provides a way to expand the capacity of stations in a cost-efficient manner, adding a welcome layer of connectivity to the state’s extensive transit system. This innovative NJ TRANSIT program, together with increased transit-oriented development, will ensure that many more New Jersey residents will have access to the state’s world-class public transit system.”
