In a letter sent today, leading planning groups in New York and New Jersey called on New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie to maintain strong support for Access to the Region’s Core (ARC), the new passenger rail tunnel between New York and New Jersey, scheduled for completion by 2018. The groups also released a fact sheet on the project’s benefits.
The letter, signed by the executive directors of Regional Plan Association, New Jersey Future and Tri-State Transportation Campaign, cited the projects many benefits for commuters, the environment and the economy and warned a project stoppage or delay could result in New Jersey losing out on desperately needed, well-paying jobs and having to refund federal funds already spent and committed – an amount that could reach into the billions.
