Health Impact Assessment Professional Training

Incorporating Health into Planning and Decision-Making

Many decisions made in sectors like housing, transportation, energy, land use and education can have profound impacts on community and individual health. Health Impact Assessments (HIA) can aid professionals by projecting potential health impacts before final decisions are made, providing evidence-based recommendations that can actively promote health, prevent diseases and/or injuries, and lead to significant economic benefits. Join other professionals in learning when and how to use this innovative tool to enhance projects, policies and programs to create healthier communities.

This professional training course is offered through Rutgers’ Office of Continuing Professional Education. The following professional continuing-education credits have been secured or applied for:

  • NJ Professional Engineers – 5 Continuing Professional Competency (CPC) Credits
  • NJ Site Remediation Professional Licensing Board (NJSRPB) – 4.5 Regulatory CECs
  • Certified Health Education Specialists (CHES) – Course approved for 5 total Category I Continuing Education Contact Hours (CECH) for Certified Health Specialists (CHES) and Master Certified Health Education Specialists (MCHES). Maximum Advanced-level contact hours available are 5. The Rutgers Office of Public Health Practice is designated multiple event provider of CECH/s by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing.
  • American Planning Association (APA) –Pending
  • Continuing Legal Education (CLE) – Supreme Court of New Jersey Board has approved course for 3.4 Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits.
  • NJ Health Officers and Registered Environmental Health Specialists – Rutgers University, NJAES, Office of Continuing Professional Education has been approved by the New Jersey Department of Health as a provider of NJ Public Health Continuing Education Contact Hours (CEs). Participants who complete this education program will be awarded5.0 NJ Public Health Continuing Education Contact Hours (CEs).

Sustainable Jersey Webinar

Learn about the impact of outdoor air quality on human health and specific actions that can be taken on days with poor air quality through participation in EPA’s free Air Quality Flag Program. This webinar is open to any school or organization that is new to the Flag Program or that would like to learn more and expand their program. New Jersey schools participating in the program can earn 10 points towards Sustainable Jersey for Schools Certification.
