Incorporating Health into Planning and Decision-Making

Many decisions made in sectors like housing, transportation, energy, land use and education can have profound impacts on community and individual health. Health Impact Assessments (HIA) can aid professionals by projecting potential health impacts before final decisions are made, providing evidence-based recommendations that can actively promote health, prevent diseases and/or injuries, and lead to significant economic benefits.
