When recent tests showed elevated lead levels in the water of Newark’s schools, New Jersey’s largest city had to confront some tough questions. What can an aging city like Newark do to protect its citizens? And who should be held responsible? Join us at the Newark Museum for “Safe Water/Safe Cities: How New Jersey Cities are Facing Lead Contamination and Crumbling Infrastructure.” The public discussion features Newark Schools Superintendent Chris Cerf, leading environmental activists and others. Hosted by WNYC reporter Sarah Gonzalez.

Panelists include:

  • Chris Cerf – Superintendent, Newark Public Schools
  • Molly Greenberg – Environmental Policy Manager, Ironbound Community Corp.
  • Daniel Van Abs – Chair, NJ Clean Water Council and Professor at Rutgers University
  • Chris Sturm – Managing Director, Policy and Water at New Jersey Future

Location: Newark Museum, 49 Washington Street
