New Jersey Future Applauds Confirmation of DEP, DOT Commissioners

TRENTON, June 8, 2018 –New Jersey Future applauds the confirmation of both Catherine McCabe as commissioner of the state Department of Environmental Protection and Diane Gutierrez-Scaccetti as commissioner of the Department of Transportation.

“Commissioner McCabe brings with her a wealth of relevant knowledge and expertise,” said New Jersey Future Executive Director Peter Kasabach. “Her prior roles with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Justice give her the leadership experience needed to tackle the urgent challenge of upgrading the state’s water infrastructure and getting lead out of our drinking water, moving us to a clean and just energy future, and helping to make us more resilient to a changing climate. Addressing these issues will be a key part of achieving Gov. Murphy’s goal of a stronger, fairer New Jersey, and we look forward to offering whatever support we can.

“Commissioner Gutierrez-Scaccetti’s background and leadership experience in complex transportation systems could not arrive back in New Jersey at a more opportune time,” Kasabach continued. “That expertise will be critical as the state continues to shepherd the Transportation Trust Fund to solvency, to address the chronic funding problems at NJ Transit, coordinate transportation and land use planning and help municipalities use their transportation funds more strategically. We are eager to work with her to make the state’s transportation network one of the linchpins of its continued economic growth.”
