TRENTON, Jan. 30, 2018 — New Jersey Future Executive Director Peter Kasabach today applauded Governor Murphy’s choice of Kevin Corbett to lead NJ Transit as part of the governor’s campaign promise to remake the agency.

“Good transit is the key to a strong economy and provides a global competitive advantage for New Jersey. Governor Murphy understands clearly the key role a 21st-century transit system can play in increasing access to jobs, housing and amenities,” said Kasabach. “In selecting Kevin Corbett, he has chosen someone with a deep knowledge of transportation issues and a broad understanding of how transportation policy and economic growth are integrally linked.

“We look forward to working with Mr. Corbett on a range of transit-related issues that will help boost New Jersey’s economic growth, including more aggressive use of transit properties for redevelopment; expansion of transit-oriented housing, commercial, and amenity development; the establishment of a transit-oriented development specialty office within the agency; and proactively helping to create vibrant, walkable places around transit stations, which are crucial factors in attracting employers and the workers they seek,” continued Kasabach. “In addition, we are hopeful that he will lead the effort to develop a more sustainable funding structure for the agency, that can support service and equipment upgrades while keeping fares affordable.”
