New Jersey Future statement on Global Warming Response Act “80×50” Report

TRENTON, October 15 — New Jersey Future Executive Director Peter Kasabach released the following statement on the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Global Warming Response Act “80×50 Report”:

“New Jersey Future is encouraged by the progress that has been made under the Global Warming Response Act and by the thoughtful report that were just released. As the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection moves forward with efforts to dramatically reduce greenhouse gas emissions over the next 30 years, it is critical that these efforts include addressing the land use policies that have encouraged excessive car and energy use. Compact, mixed-use development reduces car trips, encourages energy efficiency by way of shared structures, and significantly improves local economies due to the increased demand for these types of places. A report released yesterday by Transportation for America underscores the inextricable link between land use and emissions, providing even more evidence that an effective emissions reduction strategy must include a land-use focus.”
