The conditions in which people are born, grow, work, and age have a direct impact on their health and well-being. These are called social determinants of health.

Planning is explicitly linked to our health. Non-medical factors that shape health outcomes include housing, transportation, access to green space, and neighborhood design.

New Jersey Future promotes preventative health through better design of neighborhoods and infrastructure. Planning decisions can help reduce health inequities by giving disadvantaged communities better access to healthy environments.

We are working to free our children from lead poisoning, ensure clean water flows from every tap, regenerate natural systems, and integrate open space in our urbanized areas, and address pollution impacts in communities where they are most prevalent.
