Protecting Against Natural Hazards
True resilience goes beyond reacting to disasters; it means preparing for storms before they strike. By strengthening our communities in advance, we can reduce risk, protect lives and property, and build a safer future.
That means keeping flood-prone areas free from development, reducing impervious surfaces that worsen stormwater runoff, designing infrastructure to withstand new climate pressures, restoring natural systems, and elevating climate awareness and leadership at every level.
We’re helping make New Jersey a safer, stronger place to live, work, and play. Our team advances local and state policies, develops technical guidance to support action, and collaborates directly with communities in their resilience efforts.

Learn MoreCollaboratives
Working together to tackle challenges can create even more change than any one group could do alone. Explore the collaboratives we work on related to climate change.
Sewage-Free Streets and Rivers
A network of peers taking action to accelerate solutions to combined sewer overflows and related pollution. Reducing waterway contamination accounts for the increasingly severe impacts of climate change, including sea level rise and intensifying flooding.
