Transportation Funding
New Jersey has an incredibly valuable asset: one of the most extensive public transportation networks in the United States. A robust mass transit system that provides diverse and equitable transportation options is the heart of a healthy and competitive economy.
Public transportation is a vital public good that offers public health, environmental, and social benefits beyond its primary function of transportation. As such, transit users should only be required to fund a small portion of the service.
New Jersey Future supports:
- Ensuring a sustainable source of funding for mass transit through the constitutional dedication and reauthorization of the new Corporate Transit Fee
- Recalibrating transit service to increase the focus on non-work trips, in light of the rise of remote work
- Creating affordable, micro-transit services that utilize technology and shared, small vehicles, such as Via Jersey City and GoTrenton, to serve “transit deserts” in densely populated, underserved areas
We’re advocating to achieve these goals, making it more convenient to move through our state. Check out our resources in the tab above for more information on how to fund transportation projects in your community.
