Redevelopment
Redevelopment–a core component of smart growth–promotes development in existing communities and commercial areas by utilizing existing infrastructure and preserving open space and natural resources. Repurposing previously-developed areas and directing investments to existing centers, both large and small, ensures that we use our limited land most effectively.
Good redevelopment involves the community and ensures that the places in which people live, work, and gather meet their needs. By understanding local challenges, we can revitalize buildings, streets, sidewalks, parks, and other neighborhood building blocks to create safer, accessible, and meaningful spaces for everyone.
New Jersey Future supports community revitalization through redevelopment. By focusing on redevelopment, we can create walkable spaces with a range of housing types and a vibrant mix of uses, making New Jersey a truly sustainable state.
